Inflammation-related medication use and risk of lymphoma

Using a nested case-control study design, we will identify lymphoid malignancies among these CRN populations. Population-based cancer registries will be used to identify new cases of lymphoid malignancies diagnosed from1998-2007; membership files will be used to identify controls. Pharmacy databases will be used to identify prescriptions for statins and other medications in order to assess the association between statin use and the risk of lymphoma overall and by lymphoma subtype. The secondary objective, led by Dr.Chao at KPSC, is to assess the association of statin use and lymphoma risk among patients with selected predisposing autoimmune disorders. The hypothesis is that a protective association between statin use and lymphomas will be stronger for lipophilic statins and for lymphoma subtypes that are more closely related to chronic inflammation.
